THE POTION DIARIES SERIES BY AMY ALWARD REVIEW | BOOK TALK #14

Hey guys! I haven't written a book review in so long and I am so happy to be bringing you a two books in one book review, all about The Potion Diaries and The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour by Amy Alward.

Going into the first book, I was very skeptical that I wasn't going to like it; thinking it was more suited to a younger tween audience. I am so happy that I was wrong.

I absolutely loved The Potion Diaries! It heavily revolves around potions, which makes me think of Chemistry (which I absolutely love.) The story follows the journey of Samantha Kemi (an alchemist) along with other alchemists in their journey to find a cure for the Princess Evelyn, who made a potion in which made her fall in love with her self!
I was really surprised and pleased by the style in which Alward wrote about Princess Evelyn being in love with herself; it turned out to be a pretty dangerous situation.
Of course, what is a YA novel without a romance? Our male protagonist is the one and only, Zain Aster, who is apart of an opposing team, no less!
On top of this, we are confronted with a bunch of mystery, mythical elements and amazing writing. So I'm not going to tell you if Sam wins because I am pretty sure you'll want to find out for yourself!

Moving on to the second book in this magical series, The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour. This book follows Sam on her travels with the Princess of Nova, Evelyn across the Royal Kingdom. Sam is on this journey to ultimately keep everyone safe from the Princess and her ever present powerful magic. This is good for Sam because she needs to find ingredients to make a potion for her Grandad who has had his memory swiped. Like in the first book, we are catapulted into another world of mystery, myths and alchemy. Question is: can Sam save her Grandad?

Overall, I loved this series and cannot wait for the next book! The writing in both books was amazing and was different to most YA books because the romance between two characters wasn't the main focus. I highly recommend you read these books!

Have you read the Potion Diaries?
